About the Opportunity
Parkes Shire Council is committed to delivering exceptional service to our vibrant community and is seeking a passionate and customer-focused Customer Service Officer to join our team.
This is a permanent position and represents a great opportunity to be the first point of contact between Council and our residents, businesses and stakeholders. In this role, you will provide high-quality customer service across face-to-face, telephone and electronic channels, ensuring enquiries are handled professionally, efficiently and, wherever possible, resolved at first point of contact.
We are looking for someone with strong communication skills, a positive and solutions-focused approach and a genuine commitment to delivering a professional customer experience.
Council is open to considering job share arrangements for suitable applicants, subject to operational requirements.

About You
The successful applicant will require excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills in order to provide top-tier customer experiences.
To be successful in this role, you will possess:
- Vocational qualifications in Business Administration or a related discipline
- Currently working at Parkes Shire Council
- Demonstrated experience in providing face-to-face, phone and electronic customer services.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills, including proven negotiation, problem-solving and conflict and dispute resolution skills.
- Experience in cash handling, processing a variety of payments and end-of-day reconciliation.
- Ability to multi-task and balance competing priorities whilst maintaining high attention to detail and monitoring workflow.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
- Demonstrated ability to provide a high standard of customer service to internal and external customers, including a proven ability to solve problems and identify alternative solutions that satisfy a range of legislative requirements and policies and procedures.
- Experience in taking analytical approaches to problem solve and improve customer experience.
- Excellent standard of IT literacy and advanced computer and software skills, including proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications, and IT based communication systems.
- Current and maintained NSW Drivers Licence
It will be highly desirable if you possess any of the following:
- Appointment as Justice of the Peace
- Knowledge of the role, functions and responsibilities of Local Government

The appointment will be in accordance with the Local Government (State) Award and Parkes Shire Council's policies and conditions of employment. The role has been evaluated as being Grade 9 of the Council's salary structure with a commencing salary of $1,296.39 per week ($67,412 - $77,523 per annum, depending on skills and experience) plus super and salary packaging options to increase your take-home pay.
