About the Opportunity

Parkes Shire Council is looking for a Gardener to join our Parks and Gardens team in Parkes, NSW. In this role, you will assist with the maintenance of parks, gardens, reserves and urban landscapes. 

Your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Perform garden maintenance and improvement works. 
• Develop and apply horticultural knowledge. 
• Install and maintain pressurised irrigation systems.
• Operate and maintain small plant, tools and equipment. 
• Assist team leaders with leading and coordinating Parks and Gardens Assistants as required.
• Other duties as required by Parkes Shire Council

About You

To be successful in this role, you will need:

• SafeWork NSW Construction Induction (White Card).
• Current driver's licence.
• Certificate III in Horticulture or equivalent.
• Knowledge of horticultural techniques and the ability to identify a range of plants. 
• Experience in operating gardening machinery and tools. 
• Good time management skills.
• Ability and willingness to work in confined spaces, excavations and at heights.

Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:

• Knowledge of the role, functions, and responsibilities of Local Government.

The appointment will be in accordance with the Local Government (State) Award and Parkes Shire Council's policies and conditions of employment. 

The role has been evaluated as being Grade 5 of Council's salary structure and offers a salary circa $54,000 to $62,000 ($27 to $31 per hour) (depending on skills and experience) plus super and salary packaging options to increase your take-home pay.
